I am a San Francisco Psychotherapist who works primarily with men struggling with relationships (or lack thereof), intimacy, emotional communication, anger/aggression, sexual behaviors, and sexuality.
Much of that work focuses on addictive-feeling sexual behaviors, and may include issues with porn, apps, and other sexual behaviors. Often these behaviors are symptoms of a deeper longing to be more connected and less lonely.
I will work with you to create meaning and understanding from confusing relational patterns. With these insights, you can create new and powerful ways to connect with others.
Sex, whether alone or partnered, can be a healthy expression of your innate desire to connect, enjoy, have fun, and celebrate who you are. I recognize the anxiety, consequences, and suffering when your relationship to porn, apps, and sexual behaviors is no longer in sync with who you want to be or become.
I also work with:
Anxiety | Depression | Grief
LGBTQ issues including bullying, coming out, shame
Drug and Alcohol Addiction including 12 Step recovery/harm reduction
Porn, Masturbation, Sex Compulsions/Issues
That’s a great question! What will therapy look like for you?
Therapy feels different for everyone. How you connect in therapy is an important consideration in therapeutic outcomes. In our initial sessions, and throughout the treatment, I will ask you to pay attention to that connection. I am a psychodynamic therapist and here’s how I break that down. I work with you to resolve both the symptom and the characterological cause. This multi-pronged approach often leads us to family and childhood history. To the extent that the past is alive in the “present day”, understanding this relationship can expand the range of choices…helping move from reaction to reflection. More choices, enables you to build resilience and agency.
I want you to find relief from the immediate pain and resolve the deeper, internal conflicts and doubts. Sessions may feel intense and safe at the same time. In this way, you can become more resilient and the changes more long lasting.
